The Las Vegas Academy Senior Guitar Quartet
This is the eleventh Senior Guitar Quartet since guitar was added to the ten-time
GRAMMY® Award winning music department at the Las Vegas Academy (LVA) of the Arts.
Under the direction of Bill Swick, the LVA Senior Quartets have won numerous awards
including the
magazine “Best Classical Ensemble.” The quartets have performed
at many national conventions.
Orpheus Guitar Ensemble
Orpheus Guitar Ensemble is one of the most recognized pre-college guitar ensembles in
the nation. Founded in 2008 at Orange County School of the Arts, it consists of students
between the ages of 11 to 16 and includes some of the most prize-winning players in California
and the U.S.A. Members from the group have won or placed as finalists in some of the most
prestigious national and international guitar festivals and competitions in the U.S.A., such as
the Guitar Foundation of America, Parkening International Guitar Competition, American
String Teachers Association, International Guitar Festival at University of Texas at Dallas,
University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB), International Guitar Festival at University of
Indiana at Bloomington, Sierra Nevada International Guitar Competition, and the Pacific
Guitar Festival. In 2010 the group won first place in the Large Ensemble Category in the
University and College division at UTB.
Duo Mirić
Darka and Tanja Mirić (Duo Mirić) are twin sisters from Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
They began classical guitar training at the age of 8 with Prof. Ljubinko Jović who immediately
encouraged their duo playing.Their guitar studies continued at Hinds Community College,
MS, and Mississippi College where they studied with Dr. John Ingwerson. In 2006, they won
the college duo and overall college division at the University of Texas at Brownsville Ensemble
Festival.The sisters hold their M.M. from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, where
they studied with Robert Guthrie and are currently pursuing their D.M.A.’s at the University
of Minnesota with Maja Radovanlija.
The University of Texas Guitar Quartet
The University of Texas Guitar Quartet was formed in fall 2011 under the coaching of
Professor Adam Holzman. All four quartet members are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Guitar
Performance. In March 2012, the quartet won first place in the collegiate quartet division of the
national Brownsville Guitar Ensemble Competition. Individually, the members have won and
been finalists in the Guitar Foundation of America’s International Youth Competition,
appeared on NPR’s
From the Top
, and been winners of various national, state, and local
competitions.The group enjoys performing new works and engaging diverse audiences
both in and out of the concert hall.
